PPI Claim

The main reason why people agree to pay for PPI policies is so they have some cover in place should they lose their income. They don’t want to lose their home, their vehicle, or default on various forms of payments they have obligations to. The specifics for each PPI policy is different but when someone needs to access the funds of cover a PPI claim is required.

The process for filing the claim is one you need to follow strictly. For example you may only have a set period of time after the change in circumstances to file the claim. You may need to provide a great deal of documentation for the claim to be evaluated. The failure to provide all of the information can result in the claim being denied.

Make sure you keep copies of all the documents you submit with a PPI claim for your own records. That way if they are lost or the company claims they never got them you have proof. You should also document any phone calls you make to the provider regarding the mis sold PPI including who you speak to, the date and time, and the results of those conversations.

More than half of all PPI claims that are submitted are denied, and this is due to the various elements that aren’t covered within them. Most people aren’t prepared for this to take place and become quite angry when it occurs. The provider should be offering a detailed explanation of why that claim has been denied. They tend to put in lots of legal jargon that can be hard to decipher. Contact them for further explanations if that is what you get from them.

If you feel that denial is in error you need to take steps to counteract it. There are some advocacy groups that can help you to evaluate your PPI policy and determine what course of action you should take. There are more of these groups out there than ever before willing to fight because they don’t see the PPI policies out there as being fair to consumers.

There are some things that you need to be aware of before you file such a claim. For example if you are self employed or retired you won’t be eligible for the benefits. Why then, where you sold the policy in the first place? The lender often hopes you won’t learn those rules and that you won’t ever need to file a claim for payment.

In such circumstances though make sure you ask for a refund of your premiums to be paid plus the interest you paid in on them. You may be eligible to do so even if your PPI claim is denied and that ruling can’t’ be overturned. Every case is different so find out what can be done in your particular circumstances.
