PPI Guide
Anyone out there considering PPI cover needs to have all the facts before they dive into it. While lenders aren’t pushing it as much as they used to, it is still a problem out there. No overall PPI guide exists because every policy can be different. There are various premiums as well as levels of cover offered.
What is important to note is that no one is obligated to have PPI cover. In the past, many lenders promoted it as a necessity for the individual to be eligible for the loan. Others presented it as a protective form of cover that just came with the loan without telling the person they would be charged for it.
The cover isn’t great and very few claims are even approved, mainly due to the fact that so many policies constitute mis sold PPI because the cover is inappropriate. Statistically, only about 1 in 5 claims end up with the person being able to get some money in return for their investment on the cover. Part of PPI guide information should be sharing all of this but it doesn’t. Instead, people are given the impression that this is a method of protection that they can rely on.
Learning about PPI can be interesting and very informative. You want to have as much information as you can before you sign up for such a program. In many instances the overall premiums are much more than what would be paid out. With that in mind, a person is better off putting their own money into a savings account for emergencies instead of with PPI cover.
You do have the right to cancel PPI cover at any time that is associated with a loan. The lender will tell you that everything has to be recalculated, so tell them to do so. They can’t give you a higher rate of interest when they do so. With a credit card company, they need to process your request by the next billing cycle. They can’t raise your interest rate when you remove PPI cover either.
Not all PPI cover programs are legally done or fair to the consumer. Finding out where one you has may fit into that is important. You may be eligible to file a reclaim to get your money back. You may be entitled to all of it or a large chunk of it plus interest. The government is well aware there are issues with PPI cover, and they are working to make laws to protect consumers.
You may have been a victim through PPI cover from the start but that is all about to change. You have the opportunity to cancel that cover and to pursue getting your money back. Now it is time for the lenders to be put into a situation that costs them money rather than their customers.
